What are some of 311's least complicated songs since '97? Whether good or bad.
The first couple of songs that came to mind are Whiskey & Wine and Solar Flare. W&W is the same basic chords over and over the whole time. Vocally they do some cool harmonies though. This may be weird to say but Solar Flare basically sounds like a band that's trying to have "311 riffs" but they aren't as good as 311...even though it's a 311 song. They have plenty of riffs and songs that aren't necessarily complicated but are still cool, but Solar Flare doesn't really fall into that territory for me.
That's a good example of a simple song that still kicks ass.
Prisoner is pretty easy too. Stealing Happy Hours bass line is easy.
These are off the top of my head for now.. there are others
What Was I Thinking
Long for the Flowers
Ebb and Flow
Im mostly going with guitar (rhythm guitar i mean) with these songs, though i think their mostly simple all around in any aspect.
Sunset in july.
I think some of these songs, mainly WWIT and Long For The Flowers, have some simple parts, but I would not at all put them in the same category as some of the others that are all around simple and easy.
I can't believe no one has said Little brother yet
fuck that song
Same Mistake Twice
simple songs suck some of the time.. and occasionally theyre embarrassing.
I"m not saying that song is super complicated but I wouldn't put it in the "simplest" category. There's lead guitar hooks, the bridge itself has a lot of notes in the guitar riff. Maybe you're just talking about the vocals though.
Jupiter modulates (changes key) like crazy though. I’d argue it’s one of their most complex songs.
So far offspring and gch kicked ass. Soo..... theres that
That may be so and I'm not a musician but it still seems pretty straight forward to me.
Complex? Idk, I wouldn't use that word for Jupiter. Complex to me would be a song like Six or Sever. Lots of different styles and tempo changes
100% vocals. I like the song a lot, but it’s one of the more repetitive and straightforward to me. As a non-musician, simple songs are ones I can learn the lyrics in just a few listens, especially compared to songs in their catalog that I’ve heard countless times and “know” the lyrics, but can’t keep pace at all due to speed or changes in the rhythm. I looked it up on an a guitar tabs site and it’s rated as intermediate.
