To clarify some of the actions allowed under a national emergency:

"Under the powers delegated by such statutes, the president may seize property, organize and control the means of production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication, regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel, and, in a variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens."

Those anti-commie, limited government republican values hard at work, y'all!

And that's the point. He's not giving any data dipshit!

Know why? Because there's nothing that will support his non-existent argument.

Want to know how I know that? He hasn't given a single detail on why it's a crisis.

Oh yeah..it's in his heart and mind. Sweet data. He's the Scarecrow and Lion combined.

Every article I've seen referencing the use of emergency powers also mentioned the likelihood of court challenges.

The real question is obviously whether he'll win in court.

Good article on the subject from the wapo...

"That opinion remains the leading precedent on a president’s declaration of emergency powers. It suggests that if the court finds that Congress has authorized emergency powers that cover the building of Trump’s wall, he will prevail. But if it finds that Congress has rejected it, he will lose."

Do you think that Congress has any intention of this? It's a non-starter.

    Can you read?

Declaring an emergency to build a border wall is all fun and games, but then the libdems take control in 2020, declare an emergency to fight climate change, and tank the U.S. economy.

    Won't be so funny then!

Why would anybody be opposed to a wall protecting your nation's border from unauthorized entry?

THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER SHOULD NOT BE BURDENED WITH THE FINANCIAL COSTS OF THIS PHYSICAL BARRIER. DONALD TRUMP MADE A CAMPAIGN PROMISE THAT MEXICO WOULD PAY FOR IT, IF IT HAPPENED. HE'S BREAKING HIS PROMISE TO YOU AND YOU'RE MADE AT THE DEMS? GET A CLUE STUPID.

Also because it can be done in a much more efficient and cost effective way. EVERYONE wants border security. People like you just refuse to acknowledge that there are options besides the one Trump is floating lol. Options that Democrats and Republicans agree on.

Similar reasons exist, like when people choose Invisible Fences over a physical fence for their pet.

There's a better way to do it without fucking up your yard.

Interesting because until today, I wasn't seeing any news outlets mentioning the possibility of injunctions. I actually had to search to find something. And I follow a lot of news sites! Do you remember when/where you read this? I'd like to follow outlets that use a tempered view to look at the big picture.

First I heard of Trump getting the money via emergency declaration was on BBC.com.

And in other, more reasonable news, Democrats are doing there part and passing legislation in the House to re-open the government.

Whether you agree with it or not, it's certainly a better strategy. They aren't sitting there with their arms crossed with no compromise in sight.

The optics are very bad for the president and he's the one in the corner. There's no reason the Democrats should budge or any indication that they will.

That article doesn't take a definitive stance on how the court will rule and I have no idea what the court will do.

CNNs chief legal analyst seems to think Trump has a decent shot in court, so I think you're just showing your own ignorance thinking he couldn't possibly win.

Never said it was impossible. Extremely unlikely. Just like him winning the presidency.

Personally, I hope he makes an Emergency Declaration.

It will seal his loss in 2020. Once again none of this wins him a single vote. He actually loses votes when he doesn't do what the people want and throws his weight around. Much like Toobin suggests.

And Obama promised that you could keep your existing healthcare. Shit happens and Mexico will pay for it in the long run.

Not everybody wants border security and that's been made clear. Yes there are other options and they should all be used in combination. We didn't get rid of car bumpers when seatbelts came out did we? Did we do away with seatbelts when airbags came out? Of course not. Multiple means of security used collectively is the best option and the wall is part of that.

Don't kid yourself, liberal democrats would be 100% against an invisible fence if it was somehow possible.

I wonder if Trump takes in to account the 12 billion dollars that illegal immigrants pay in taxes (state/local/etc.) I'm assuming not. Why not nix the wall, let the folks in, and increase your tax base? Give them citizenship with limited/no benefits until they have accrued years in the workforce. The bad hombres will go into for-profit prisons, which will make businesses happy. Illinois looks like a hot mess with a mass exodus in place and it's going to leave the state in shambles. Why don't we turn this in to an advantage and tax it? Like weed. Seems like a no-brainer. Fix immigration - not a pricey, useless wall.

Worse than buying into an expensive wall that won't do a thing?

The whole thing is going to cost so much fucking money, the cost estimates are way short. the cost-overruns would be astronomical. Especially considering the private land owned on the border. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for a useless wall.

We can definitely make Mexico pay for it. Next time an earthquake rocks Mexico City Trump can pledge a billion dollars in aid and then tell them we'll just knock it off what they owe us for the wall instead. They'll get the picture.
