It screams 90's. It's comfortable to see, but it's outdated. It's cartoonish.

Let's make them a modern, simple, sleek, geometric logo that sparks immediate intrigue.

No, it doesn’t. I think it’s a really good logo that doesn’t look dated or cartoonish at all.

I've actually always loved the logo.

But I think they could benefit from a temporary rebrand. Just something that looks new and different.

I agree with you and also kind of don't. I kind of hate the subject of this thread, but also kind of agree.

The circular logo is flawless. It is such a great piece of band artwork. When they had the audacity to change it up for Soundsystem, I was enraged.

But it does fully reek of "90's". So I get what @SlowCrates is saying. It has nothing to do with the logo itself. It's not like the logo is in some dated neon font that says "We're an 80's synth pop band".

The band is still putting out great stuff, but to 99.99% of the world, 311 = 90's rap rock. So possibly, a different logo could shift things, and say "We still love that nostalgia money rolling in, but we also are currently putting out great stuff!"

Or, they could just go fully bold and put out one of those stupid ass shirts in Helvetica font (unless they already have? I honestly forget). Here's a possible design in Helvetica:

    Nick &
    SA &
    Tim &
    P-Nut &
    Chad &
    Our Cruise Dollars =
    Fuck You level of income
    We're keeping out 90's-ass logo
Stay positive and love your live and oh yeah

If they updated the logo to something more modern and hip we would all fucking hate it.

The idea reminds me of the trend to make all new OS and websites look like an app from a GD leapfrog.

The current logo is fine but I'd be interested to see different takes on rams and the twin towers in space.

It's marketing. It's a recognizable symbol of the band. You don't change that shit and have to start that equity all over.

I like that they've mostly stuck with the same font/logo but changed up the style and stuff over the years.

It's got a 90's graffiti look to it. I heard a non-311 fan critique it that way, which just adds to the problem. 311 is a 90's band with a 90's logo.

Here's the thing... None of 311's hard core fans would suddenly be like, "What happened, where the fuck did 311 go??"

But non-fans might see a new logo, not stigmatized by the 90's, and think, "Who is this?"

I wouldn't mind this at all. Never been a huge fan of the logo style personally. It's whatever to me.

I don't think they've got anything to lose by changing the logo. But they might have something to gain.

    I would.

I had a similar reaction to the Soundsystem iteration of the logo until it became clear it was only a temporary change.

So if 311 changed their logo, would you, a life long fan, be less likely to give them your money?

I would continue to be a fan, but your premise was that hard core fans wouldn’t care. I was just saying that I would care. I would not like it if they changed the logo.

My premise was that hard core fans wouldn't suddenly lose sight of the band, regardless if they liked the change. You, me, everyone on this board would continue our fandom. Wouldn't we?

I think some hardcore fans with logo ink would continue their fandom but be pretty WTF?! about it :p
