I didn’t see it but when I found out it was The Weekend I was baffled. And then I realised just how old and out of touch I had become with what’s “popular.” Like I could’ve sworn the dude only had one massively popular song that everyone would know that was watching that game. Whereas someone like Lady Gaga, she had like 10 global hits. Songs even your racist uncle would know and secretly love. But The Weekend…I’m not saying he’s a bad artist or his songs suck whatsoever. I’m just saying to me he’s an odd choice for the super bowl and it’s just that moment in someone’s life where you can say, “this is when I knew I was old.”
I am surprised the game went the way it did. I knew either team could win but, damn. I just kept feeling like at any moment the Chiefs would catch fire and make it interesting. But, nope. As far as the halftime show goes, I just don't care. I am aware that The Weekend is a big star but the only music of his I know is from whatever commercial that plays constantly and he shows up at the end going through a security gate. As far as that goes and the other shit I heard from him last night, I don't like it nor do I dislike it. His music is just sort of there. I know that the Super Bowl halftime show is more about huge mainstream appeal, but it always seems funny to me that it's always these pop acts that get the show and it's rarely any cool rock bands or something like that. Like when I think about football music, I don't think about Madonna and The Weekend and that sort of thing.
Same thought and cited example. I like Gaga, but I have never sought out her albums or live show. Her Super Bowl performance a few years ago was phenomenal and enjoyed by every other non fan at the party. I liked The Weekend’s stage setup, but his performance did nothing for me. Foo Fighters feels like a missed choice. Ton of hits, amazing live show even if you’re not a big fan of their music, new album ...
Especially with the backstory https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...-that-i-gave-tyreek-hill-the-peace-sign-back/
Oh yeah niiice pull with FF. Perfect time to have them perform. Mass appeal, been around for decades. Dozens of global hits. Something the parents would recognise and enjoy. They literally just dropped a new album. Wtf were they thinking.
I told every person wanting my prediction that the Buccaneers would win by 11. Lots of people telling me I was crazy. Wish I had been in Vegas.
