I heard Island Sun on this shitty MTV show my wife watches called Siesta Keys. It’s basically the Laguna Beach of Florida show.

That's awesome! Was it before or after the Jackets announced it was Jackets Time?

That makes sense because as soon as it the playoffs come around, The Capitals play like Failed Men's ideas.

I love the sounds at the end of Too Late. First time hearing them on headphones tonight .

That's why if its a Scotch only album, I'd put Too Late as the closer

What about in a vacuum though? You think it's broken in that case?

You would have to have the music cranked way too high to be heard over the noise. It totally kills all the subtleties of the production.

I have to complain about MOSAIC for a moment. While the production is amazing in almost every way, after some one on the board pointed out a weakness, I can't unhear it.

The bass is lacking something on several songs. The guitars are loud, but when the volume is high I don't feel it as much as I would like to.

I hope that's something they fix for the next album.

Hmmm I never noticed. Can you pinpoint specific parts?

I've noticed that mostly on Too Late, which is disappointing since P-Nut does some cool shit especially in the pre-chorus. The bass was great on Stereolithic.

Not without going through and looking for it. I've heard the album on headphones, surround sound speakers, and in three different vehicles: A 2013 Nissan van, a 2004 Toyota Rav 4, and a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe.

It seems that on some songs, the bass is very prominent by design. On several others, it is barely noticeable. Turning up the volume only makes everything else loud, and the bass is hardly there.

    Anyone else notice this?

Ohhhhh yeah. Yep, that's definitely the main culprit. That song gets louder as it goes on, by the way. It starts off fairly quiet but by the end I have to turn the volume down so my ears don't bleed. (I already listen to it at max volume).

I think Too Late is an older song that they must have finished for Mosaic. From day one I've thought it sounded a little softer in terms of its production.

A year after Mosaic was released, it is still kind of amazing how much more rocking and musical that damn album is compared to other music being released today - at least in terms of mainstream stuff I come across. The guitar and bass guitar are endangered species in new bands, but 311 still knows how to make some serious music in the world of electronic blah. We are all so fortunate to be hitched onto one of the few bands of a better music era that is not only still in existence but that can actually blow us away with what they are still putting together.
