That swollen makeup was so wonderfully off-putting.
frank and cricket were the only redeeming parts. what a stinker.
Was this another episode that fell to Glenn Howerton being off for AP Bio? Because every single episode he wasn't in this season was bottom tier.
Like robb said this one will get cut from my rotation for sure.
they really should have cut the season to 8 episodes or something.
It was just so odd. Like I’ve said before, this show has been a long-running show and it’s totally cool to deviate from some of the “original formula” like they have in episodes like “The Gang Turns Black” and several others. The thing with those is that they were funny and still felt right. A couple episodes this season were just not working and I still say they should have held off on making this season. They obviously had scheduling conflicts where the full cast was barely together in these episodes and the main cast members that usually have a lot of writing credits seemed to have just given up control.
So having a season finale turn into basically an artsy-fartsy sort of thing like you may see on Louis CK’s show he used to have out of nowhere was bizarre, especially since it was basically just Frank and Mac. I did see it got a lot of praise from the LGBT community which is cool and I can understand how it meant something to them. Just a very strange thing to watch from this show.
I thought the first 75% was run of the mill, mediocre comedy (though miles better than the last two episodes). It was okay, but it was kind of funny. I didn't "get" the dance, except for the fact that it looked very well done.
But I saw a lot of feedback that a lot of people felt it was very impactful. I will gladly take an episode that gave me a couple dumb laughs, and a lot of other people some real emotional resonance.
Also Devito's facial expressions during the dance sold it for me to understand how other people could "get it". Those handful of shots he had during the dance - that's legit facial acting.
But yeah, it's funny how the dance itself was super well done and took a shitload of practice and preparation (check this article) on Rob McElhenney's part, but those few shots of Danny Devito's reactions were what really made it feel like something to me.
I guess for the purpose of the episode it was good. Just did NOT expect that from Sunny.
The problem is... IT WASN'T FUNNY. I'm watching a comedy show, not a stupid interpretive dance show with no comedy. Also, how was it "jaw dropping", vulture? Ridiculous.
Impactful? How? I seriously don't "get it". It was just a dance scene with some rain...
so true. As stated before IF I was watching Louie, I would expect it as that was more drama than it was comedy. I really don't expect that from sunny.
Didn't Rob say in an interview that they got a lot of support from the lgbqt after last season's episode of him coming out? Difference being, that episode was STILL funny. this felt like a service and very forced regardless of the art.
Sadly after this season my expectations for next are very low for next season.
If it was an episode of louie, it would have ended with louie shitting his pants after dancing so hard and an artful black & white closeup of the shit dripping down his leg.
Can he beat off as well?
I just liked that they oiled the floors and she kept sliding all over the place (on purpose) and then I thought about how much I'd enjoy a floor like that for private wifey time.
not as funny as I would imagine but it's cool to see them crack up at each other.
I love the bloopers, shit cracks me up. I did want to see more from the scene in the Escape Room episode where Dennis did the "don't sit down!" stuff. The other stuff like his "can I riff?!!" and all that had to have had some hilarious outtakes.
