That’s Weezer’s blue album for me, man.
Sick Tight’s lyrics about moderation with pot, followed by Nick spelling his name.
A jam that’s super bad.
It’s perhaps not fair to pick on an outtake, but the whole of We Do It Like This is very bad lyrically. The disagree line could be in the bottom 10 worst 311 lines.
Something about the “aww shit, what” in Full Ride sounded off coming from them. Like for the first time, they sounded like white dads trying to be cool with the whippersnappers—which is crazy since they were only pushing 30 at the time.
I thought Uncalm’s line about the scales of desire was one of the best lyrics they’d ever written...and then I found out several years ago it isn’t theirs.
Another part of FC’s regrettable lyrical legacy is that with ITM (I’ve never written that song title as an acronym out before. Sounds like an old computer company) and the line from WYMU (I’ve never written that acronym out before either. Sounds like an east coast radio station’s call letters) about singing to voicemail, the era of nick lyrics about phone calls was underway.
I'm gonna dis.
Full Ride is a little indulgent but I really dig it. Whenever I say aww shit, I follow it with - what? uh. Super bad is a pretty lazy lyric or 2 but I look past it and still like that tune. I Told Myself is another good jam damaged a bit by lazy lyrics so I won't dis there.
I think the main issue with from chaos was that it was pretty solid album that came after 5 great albums. Although I personally might put it ahead of blue.
Also yeah, some dopey lyrics on it too. Everyone has always pointed to nick’s verse on the title track as being one of the worst on the album, but I actually have always been really fond of it. I don’t think it’s an instance where he was lacking self awareness in writing it.
That album is monumental for me.
First CD I bought myself (followed shortly by Dookie, but I already had it on cassette (Dear Lord what an old person sentence).)
I know I come off as the coolest of the cool, but here is something to bring that aura down - Buddy Holly is the last song I remember taping off the radio, so I could play along to it with my badminton racquet guitar.
Also, that album is really good.
The disagree line is bottom 3, with heavy cement. Atrocious.
Ideally, a band will write all the great stuff themselves. But talent borrows, genius steals. Morrissey was a master at knowing phrases to snipe to include with his own, to flesh out an overall point.
I originally wanted to call the disagree lyric bottom 5, but I couldn’t mentally run through all the dark years songs at the time and was giving it a conservative estimate.
In the light of day, I think it could even be their number 1 groaner.
I hear ya but I'm a perfect example of not givin a fuck.
