Yes it will, but only to a point. After a while all it does is tone you. I'm still gaining from push-ups, but it won't last long. In order to get good breakdown I've had to go from 50 a day to 150 a day in under two weeks. I'm going to have to go up to 200 a day this weekend. After that point it's gonna have to be actual weight lifting.

Hey do any of you guys know anything about home gyms? I bought a machine from Walmart back in like 2000 for $100, and quickly realized why it was so cheap. The cables were stretchy. I maxed out the machine in like a month because the steel cables stretched to the point that I was only using the second half of my range of motion (the easy half). Anyway, I want to get serious about lifting but I don't want to join a gym and I'd rather not spend $1000.

I just read that Jamie Fox is doing 100 pushups a day as part of his routine to get into Mike Tyson shape. He's also doing 60 pullups and 60... something something. But I found the 100 pushups thing kind of funny. I think he's gonne probably have to live in the gym for 5 years if he wants to get into Mike Tyson shape.

Granted, I haven't looked in a while, so I'm not up to date (always a good start to an opinion!) But I'd be surprised if you could get something that is effective in the long run, safe to use at home, and under $1K.

I think a bench and an assortment of dumbbells is the ideal home setup. Relatively cheap, super versatile, you can add as you grow, and safe. Maybe one bar for deadlifts and a few other "won't crush my larynx" exercises. The low cost means you can also toss some kettle bells and other free motion tools into the mix and keep in any budget.

You're probably right. I almost pulled the trigger on a home gym for only $100. It was way too big for my apartment though and I am sure it would have been a piece of shit.

I am up to 200 push-ups a day now though.

While I was doing pushups this morning I pondered doing a set of 40 instead of a set of 30 to get to 100. But as I was on my third set of 30 I realized I couldn't recall for sure if that was my third, or only my second. So when I was at 90 for the day I may have been at 60. After that, though, I did a lot more. I either did 308 pushups, or 338 pushups today.

I can't believe that Bryce prefers Van Patten's card to mine.

    Yo.

I gotta figure this shit out. This morning before work I did 80 arm curls, 10 pull ups (gotta start somewhere), like 20 or 30 shrugs (holding small weights) and 90 pushups. But it didn't feel like enough. Now I'm at work.

Is it unhealthy to break up your routine so you're basically repeating everything later in the day?

Would it be better to do arms/back in the morning and chest/shoulders in the evening?

Now I understand why people spend so much time at the gym. Takes a while.

    Down 30 pounds since March.

For home gyms, get some dumbells and a pull up bar. Really dont need much else if you are trying to gain weight.

For cutting, just do insanity. Its legit pretty awesome for that and you only need shoes.

    For weights, i'd do this.

Monday, wednesday, friday - chest and back - do each of these until you cant. For the pullups, get a chair to do more. Should take about an hour.

    Regular pushups
    Overhand pullups - wide grip
Narrow pushups (arms by your sides)
    Chin ups
    Wide pushups
    Narrow grip overhand pullups
Decline pushups (feet on a chair)
Standing vertical one hand rows - set of 15 each side
Diamond pushups - make a diamond with your hands, feet wide
    Deadlift
Dive bomb pushups - hard to explain. Look em up.
Seated back fly - alternate between upright and bent over. Set of 16

One minute break, then repeat everything.

Tuesday / Thursday - arms, shoulders, core
Standing lateral raise - set of 15 light weights
Arnold press - set of 15 light weights
Standing lateral raise - set of 12 medium weight
Arnold press - set of 12 medium weight
Standing lateral raise - set of 6, heavy
Arnold press set of 6, heavy

Upright row, set of 15 light, 12 medium, 6 heavy, rest, 6 heavy, 12 medium, 15 light

Shoulder shrug, 3 sets of 12, heavy, super set or drop set on the 3rd

Seated front one arm raise 15 light, 12 medium, 6 heavy each side. 10 two arm front raises at medium weight between each set

    Reverse incline shoulder fly 15, 12, 6

    Rest a few minutes

Two hand bicep curls, 15 light, 12 medium, 6 heavy, 6 heavy, 12 medium, 15 light

Overhead tricep extension - 15, 12, 8. Drop set on the last set

Two hand bicep curls - 5 sets of 5 at medium weight, only slight rest between sets

Lying down tricep extension (also called skull crushers) - 15, 12, 8 drop set on the last

    Seated one arm hammer curls, 15, 12, 8 right side, 15, 12, 8 left side, 8, 12, 15 right side, 8, 12, 15 left side

    Tricep dips until you cant

Core - do p90x ab ripper. Its good

Saturday - cardio. Go for a run or do some HIIT. Insanity pure cardio or max interval circuit are much better than running.

For @Sharkey I am going to ask here 1st...

Any rowers out there? Can we make a thread if enough people do?

Husband surprised me with a Hydrow for my birthday. I had said I wanted one if I could actually follow a fitness routine for at least two months. Well, turns out it takes 2 months to ship... so he bought it and said he believed in me. (bought me the RFA for Switch to build stamina until rower comes)

I have to think of a Username and Rower name - I kinda want 311 themed.

It's too bad when you write the pun browdels, it reads as "brow-dulls".

I need one of you buttmunchers to start some sort of fitness routine so we can be workout buddies.

I don't want to have to make new friends in another board just for exercise.

I need to get my ass in gear (literally)

This lockdown has really made me so out of shape despite the fact I have to walk/cycle everywhere. I feel like I'm a bike ride away from a heart attack at 32.

I was slowly building bike stamina. Was at 30 minutes until rain season hit.

Get a ring fit and switch and join me. I'm telling you it's as much of a challenge as a beach body video
